Research and Planning

The purpose of the project was to develop new airport infrastructure by constructing a system of runways, taxiways, aprons, a passenger terminal building, a cargo terminal, and support facilities in accordance with RAC, IATA, and ICAO regulations for domestic and international operations in the city of Cartagena, to meet projected demand from 2025 through 2070.

The main activities were:

  • Calculation of platform and passenger terminal building areas.
  • Schematic floor plans.
  • Conceptual Architectural Design of the Terminal Building.
  • Options for Airport and Urban Development.

For this project, an initial terminal covering 45,000 m² was developed to serve 7.3 million passengers per year, with plans for future expansions to meet demand and platform extensions to accommodate the terminal’s growth.
